Florida Keys Flats Fishing

Florida Keys Offshore - Reef - Wreck

World class flats fishing in the pristine waters of the beautiful, subtropical Florida Keys.

Magic Charters has easy access to many different areas in which to fish. Your trip will begin in the morning when you meet Captain Meyer. Depending on where you are staying as well as the weather, tides and the species of fish you want to catch, Captain Meyer will pick you up by truck and trailer in order to launch where he thinks you will have the best chance to catch fish.

When you fish with a full time guide with 25 years of experience and use state-of-the-art equipment such as a Maverick Flats skiff, Loomis rods, and Abel and Shimano reels, your chances for a successful trip are very good.  The Keys offer many different types of fish to target including: Tarpon, Bonefish, Permit, Redfish, Trout, Sharks, and Cobia. You can fish with light spinning tackle or try your skills with a fly rod.

Captain Meyer also owns a 25 foot Sea Vee Center Console that gives you access to a variety of fish - from Grouper, Snapper, Dolphin and Sailfish to wreck fishing in the Gulf, plus Tarpon live bait fishing for up to 4 people during Tarpon season. My son, Capt. BJ Meyer also has 2 boats and is one of the best around. We still both guide on the flats but now can do everything from A to Z. This past winter the Grouper fishing was awesome out by the reef - sometimes less than 2 miles offshore. The Kingfish, Amberjacks and Sailfish were good too. Yellowtail Snapper is a blast to catch and great eating. With the summer coming on the big Mutton Snapper will spawn in June and July. The Mangrove Snapper will be abundant on the reef. Dolphin will be jumping in the boat and a lot of these fish can be caught on fly for the fly fishing enthusiasts.

There is something for everyone now year around. From meat fishing to sport fishing. Flats, reef, offshore and Gulf - we do it all.

Lobster Trips Day Time
For some family fun during the summer the lobster snorkeling trips can be a blast. The beginning of the season is usually the best time to do this. I have several hundred holes in the gulf that routinely produce lobster. Most of  these holes are in 6 to 10 feet of water, so just a mask and snorkel are enough gear to catch them. The lobster mini season opens the last Weds and Thurs of July, the main season opens Aug 6th and ends March 31st. We had a great season this year, catching our limit on every trip. Some nice grouper were speared in the process. The only requirements is that you know how to swim. I will show you how to catch them, its easy and fun for everyone,

Lobstering at Night
At night we offer Bully Netting trips for lobster. You do not go in the water, you catch them in the shallow inshore waters using lights that are attached to the boat and a long net called a Bully Net.
